Manuscript DS, signed “George R,” one page both sides, 7.75 x 12.5, December 31, 1820. Document in which King George directs the Great Seal of the United Kingdom be affixed to an agreement “containing our acceptance of an Act of accession on the part of the Swiss Confederation to a convention concluded at Aix-la-Chapelle on the Ninth day of October 1818, for the Evacuation of the French Territory by the Allied Troops.” Boldly signed at the top by King George IV and signed at the conclusion by Lord Castlereagh. The paper seal affixed to the left of George’s signature remains crisp and fully intact. Bound to the main document is a four-page manuscript copy of the act referenced. In fine condition. The Congress of Aix-la-Chapelle was primarily a meeting of the allied powers of Britain, Austria, Prussia, and Russia to resolve issues of their occupation of France following the Napoleonic Wars, resulting in the withdrawal of troops and restoration of France’s position as a respected European power.
