Superb manuscript DS, signed “George R." and "W: Pitt," one page, 15.75 x 12, March 5, 1761. The king appoints John Earl of Westmoreland "to be General of all and singular Our Horse Forces." Signed in the upper left-hand corner by King George III and countersigned in the lower right by William Pitt the Elder. Framed and in fine condition, with scattered light soiling. An exceptional document that dates both to the middle of the Seven Years' War and to King George III's first year of reign; that the document is furthermore signed by William Pitt the Elder, Britain's wartime political leader, makes it all the more rare and desirable.
