Manuscript DS, signed “George R,” one page both sides, 7.75 x 12.5, February 3, 1808. Amidst the Napoleonic Wars, King George III issues a Royal License to a London merchant to safely carry their goods on six American ships. In part: "To all Commanders of our ships of War and Privateers and all others…Christopher Idles Brothers & Co., of London Merchants…are desirous of obtaining our Royal License for Protecting Six American Ships bound on a voyage from the United State of America to the Ports of our United Kingdom with Ten Cargoes of grain, Flower, Naval Stores and such…and that the masters may be permitted to receive their freight and return with their vessels and crews to any Port not blockaded…[We] are pleased to Grant our Royal License for that purpose; and the Commanders of all our Ships of War and privateers are hereby required and directed not to molest or interrupt the said vessels or their cargoes on their voyage from the United State of America to any of the Ports of our United Kingdom either on account of the exiting War or of any other Hostilities which may in the meantime take place." Signed at the head by King George III, and countersigned at the conclusion by Baron Hawkesbury (later Prime Minister Lord Liverpool). In very good condition, with repairs to complete splits along the folds.
