King George III document signed, ''George R'' as King. Dated 27 August 1804, partially-printed document appoints the ''Trust and Welbeloved'' Jeremiah Crowder to the position of Captain of the ''Royal Waggon Train''. In 1804, in the midst of the French invasion scare, George suffered a flare-up of the mental illness that would ultimately force him to renounce the throne. Single-page document on vellum is countersigned by the General of Musters and others. Seals are present to the left edge. Measures 13.25'' x 9.25''. Creasing and light soiling that is frequently found on vellum documents; overall very good.
