King of France (born 1494) who reigned from 1515 until his death in 1547. Known as the 'Father and Restorer of Letters,' the cultured and well-read Francis, himself a poet, ushered in the Renaissance in France with generous support for a number of writers and ambitious construction projects. LS in very early modern-day French, signed "Francoys," one page, 14.5 x 7, no date. Crisply penned untranslated letter neatly signed at the conclusion "Francoys." Cloth-matted and framed with an original 1978 oil painting of the king by New England painter Richard M. Gibney, to an overall size of 23 x 27.5. In fine condition.
