King of England from January to December 1936, at which time he abdicated the throne to marry American divorcée Wallis Warfield Simpson. Original 6.5 x 8.5 silver gelatin portrait of Edward in full dress uniform as the Duke of York, by Vandyk of London. Caption affixed to reverse reads, “An unpublished portrait of His Royal Highness (in R.N. Uniform) who leaves for Australia next week.” Some light bends and creases, scattered light surface marks, and silvering to darker areas of background, visible only at an angle, otherwise fine condition.
