King of Denmark and Norway from 1766 until his death in 1808, who was nominally king due to his mental illness; most of the responsibility of running the nations fell to his stepmother, Juliana Maria of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, his half-brother, Frederick, and an ever-changing circle of royal advisers. LS in German, signed “Christian Rex,” one page both sides, 8 x 12.5, June 12, 1778. Untranslated letter signed at the conclusion by King Christian VII of Denmark, and countersigned by Foreign Minister Andreas Peter Bernstorff.
