King Charles I of England Speech
"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
1640 copy of a speech by Charles I of England entitled ''His Maj' speech to the Assembly of Peers at York.'' Two 8'' x 12.25'' pages, front and verso, in a clerical hand dated 24 September 1640. Due to the ill-fated First Bishops' War in 1639, Charles calls Parliament to raise funds: ''…where dangers are near and instant…[we] assemble the great Counsel of the Peers…to give a timely remedie to sure evils…an Army of Rebbells lodged within this Kingdom…press to the chastisement of their insolence…'' Very good with expected wear and soiling.
