King Charles I Speech
"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
King Charles I of England speech in Olde English headed “His Ma[jes]ty speach at Whitehall ye 24th of Jan 1628.” Addressed to “My Lords & gents,” the words “Tonnage & poundage” appear twice; “my hereditary prerogative” is referred to as is “passing ye bill.” Though Parliament did not approve the collection of tonnage and poundage, Charles circumvented the restriction by “forced loans” on the wealthy. Single-page, front and verso, measuring 7.25” x 11.5”. Likely written in hand of royal clerk. Light soiling, otherwise very good.
