Kindred Spirit , Pawnee Artist Charles W. Chapman
For your consideration is "Kindred Spirit" by Pawnee artist Charles W. Chapman, 1989, signed bottom right corner. "Kindred Spirit" reflects a bit of the special relationship the Pawnee have with wolves. People and horses are a mainstay of Charles W. Chapman’s art. Charles W. Chapman (1944-2017) spent his life creating art that showed the past, the customs, and the ceremonies of his people. Charles was determined to do his part to help his tribe recover the grandeur, traditions, and heritage that came so close to being wiped out. The Pawnee citizen always focused on his nation’s history and culture, but his technical inspiration came from western artists such as Remington and Russell. A former featured artist for the Tulsa Indian Arts Festival, Chapman’s paintings can be found in numerous private and public collections and galleries worldwide, in Native art calendars, and aptly enough, on a book cover for The Lost Universe: Pawnee Life and Culture, for which his father served as translator and cultural consultant. His work has been exhibited at the White House and the Oklahoma State Capital. This framed print is in very good condition overall, no marring observed. Wood frame, professionally mounted, no marring noted. Visible art measures 26.5"L x 16.5"W, and the frame is 28.5"L x 18.5"W x .75"D.*
