Kimber Model 82 Government Model Target Rifle with Rare and Desirable USMC Contract Unertl Sniper Scope with Micarta Scope Case

This rifle has the standard markings and features. It comes with an original set of Kimber peep sights, a trigger shoe and a box for a different rifle. Mounted to this rifle is an example of a WWII U.S.M.C. issue Unertl Sniper Scope and scope can. John Unertl developed and manufactured these scopes in 1940/41 under contract for the U.S.M.C. and were intended to be used on Springfield Armory Model 1903 National Match rifles modified by U.S.M.C./Navy armorers. After WWII these scopes remained in U.S.M.C. inventory and again were used successfully throughout Korea, and Vietnam. There were approximately 2,800 scopes manufactured with this example, marked "J. Unertl/USMC-SNIPER/2654", 8x magnification. This scope is accompanied with an original WWII issue micarta scope can. The can has a green painted/impregnated type of finish with its original canvas strap and belt loop attached to the side of the can. This rare scope is complete with the original Unertl scope mounts, two scope clamps with recoil spring and the screw on end caps.

Excellent, the rifle retains 98% plus of the original blue finish with a couple of razor blade marks from when the Government conducted inventory and a few small light handling marks. The stock is also excellent with a few light handling marks and a long razor blade mark on the left side of the buttstock. Mechanically needs work as bolt will not stay cocked on close. The scope is very good as refinished with 98% of the blue finish remaining having some scattered minor scratches and dings along with clear optics. The scope rings have a golden brown patina. The scope case is excellent with 98% of the original green finish remaining with some scattered scratches, light dings and a few minor chips.
