<B>Kid Komics #1 (Timely, 1943) CGC VF+ 8.5 Off-white pages.</B></I> The cover star of this first issue sure looked like a winner -- Captain Wonder, decked out in red and blue tights, and brandishing a sub-machine gun, smashing his way into a Japanese World War II submarine -- what a hero! What happened after his first adventure (and origin) here is a mystery, because this was the good Captain's only appearance. Surviving on for another handful of issues were Young Allies charter members Whitewash and Knuckles, who appear alongside Subbie the Sea-Going Lad, young cowhand Pinto Pete, and mini-vixen Trixie Trouble. Syd Shores provided the colorful cover, while Bob Oksner, Don Rico and that mad doodler, Basil Wolverton, fill the pages inside. This exceptional example is surpassed by only one other copy in the current CGC census report. Overstreet 2006 VF 8.0 value = $2,874; VF/NM 9.0 value = $4,837.
