Representation of a four-armed deity with an appealing patina and serene features

This four-armed Vishnu bronze figure was created in the 13th century during the Angkor period in Cambodia and represents one of the most important gods of Hinduism. Vishnu stands in the upright samabhanga position with his feet facing forward. Each hand of his arms forms the vitakra mudra, the gesture of exposition or explanation, with the thumb and index finger. The deity is wearing a garment, which is finely chased in relief as well as precious jewelry. The face has a meditative expression with friendly facial features. His long earlobes reach down to his shoulders and underline Vishnu’s grace. The head is adorned with a crown and a pointed ushnisha. The beautiful distinctive patina gives the figure a particular aesthetic, which is emphasized by various metal alloys.

The bronze figure is in good condition with signs of wear consistent with age and traces of restoration all around. The total height is 52 cm and the width is 24 cm.
