Needles National Bank, Needles, California, $10 unissued remainder bearer draft c.1894 on the Keystone Mining Co., Keystone, Nevada. The Needles National Bank only existed for two years, 1893 to 1895. During that time, it held an account on the Keystone Mining Co. at Keystone, Nevada. The Keystone Mine is located some five miles west of Goodsprings in Clark County, Nevada. It was a small producer, with a mill at Sandy, California, but the early management during the first years had another struggle. The "Panic of 1893" made silver coins hard to get to meet payroll. Just as other Nevada mining companies had done, the Keystone Mining Co. had bearer drafts printed by the New York Bank Note Co. in $1 and $10 denominations. Other denominations may exist but have not been recorded. The experiment was a failure. Soon the Needles National Bank failed and the Keystone mine was sold, with the new company taking the name Nevada-Keystone Mining Co. Yet it's interesting that these notes state that the Keystone Mining Co. was located at the Nevada town of Keystone. Yet extensive research indicates that the town of "Keystone" was a hope or dream by the mine owners, and there was never a town or even a camp of any size named "Keystone" at the Keystone mine. Note has multiple pieces out at edges.
