Kevin Walz studied fine arts at Pratt Institute and the New York Studio School but turned to interior design early in his career. Among the many spaces he has worked on are a Tootsie Plohound store in the Flatiron district of Manhattan and the Santa Monica residence of actress Dana Delany. In 1994 he received the Prix de Rome fellowship from the American Academy, and since that time he has resided in Italy. He was also inducted into the Metropolitan Home "Design 100 Hall of Fame" in 1997. Walz often uses materials in a creative fashion and has developed a line of cork furniture manufactured by KorQinc.
Walz designed the chairs offered here for the Island Records division of the Island Trading Company in New York City. The overall mission was to create a lively atmosphere for an unconventional office, and these chairs were originally located in the video conference room.
