Kevin Stone : Raptor, Canada 2009

7ft x 11ft x 4ft , 200 pounds hand crafted life size stainless steel. Artist's welcome to the buyer: My name is Kevin Stone,

I’m the owner and sculptor for Metal Animation Studio Inc.

Located in Chilliwack BC., Metal Animation Studio is a company dedicated to building the "largest Stainless steel sculptures in the world"

Created with over 20 yrs of metal fabrication experience, my pieces are designed to inspire awe and simply amaze spectators upon viewing.

Hand made from 16ga surgical grade stainless steel, then ground and polished to a full mirror finish.

I began stainless sculpture about 5 1/2 yrs ago, after an employer asked if I could build a Gargoyle sculpture for the roof top of there building.

Since I loved to draw from early child hood, cartoon and fantasy art. I thought it would be fun to challenge my self to try sculpting in metal.

I completed the gargoyle in about 3 months just working with the left over scraps around the shop, the result was that I found stainless steel to be a wonderful

And beautiful material to work with for making art.

I now work full time from my studio at home with the help of a full time investor and am working on my 4th (large scale) sculpture.

Each sculpture I make is cut by hand using a Makita power sheer or a grinder with a cut off wheel, then carefully fit and tack welded using a miller (TIG) welding machine.

Once I’ve completed the fit up and all the pieces are fit and tacked together I go back and complete all the welding.

After completing all the welding I grind down the welds and start and multi - step process of polishing, by working the metal with finer and finer grit

polishing pads. Until I get the beautiful mirror finish is the result.

My first "large scale" piece entitled "Power and Authority" a bald eagle, in the attacking pose. Brought me international news coverage

And a public unveiling with about 2000 people attending.

Inspired by the positive feedback from friends and the public who have seen my work I decided to make another eagle,

Bigger and with even more detail.

This brings me too "Power of flight" a Mirror polished stainless steel bald eagle weighing in at 6000lbs and having a wingspan of over 40 ft.

This sculpture also made international news and has brought about 10,000 people annually to see my studio and the 2 eagles on display

In my yard.

Fantasy art was something I loved as a child, hero's fighting dragons and monsters, saving the kingdom or damsel in distress...

I used to draw for hours copying and learning to draw these amazing characters

With this in mind I decided to make my next piece based on that foundation.

This brings me too my current and most challenging project.

The Chinese Water Dragon, Working for almost 2 yrs on this project and again using Stainless steel as my chosen medium

I have created the world’s largest stainless steel Chinese dragon. Standing 12 ft tall, 6000lbs and over 85ft long the body has 2 large coils

Before reaching 12 ft in the air, to the tail. I Unveiled my Chinese Water Dragon on April 25th, with a great turn out of almost 2000 people attending, great support from the City Council, Chilliwack tourism, local art groups and a speech from the Chilliwack Mayor Sharon Gaetz. I have all three sculptures on display here at my studio in Chilliwack and am open 7 days a week for the public to come and see and take pictures of these wonderful pieces before they sell. I`m now taking a few months to recover from and up and coming hernia surgery and working on getting a sale..Then hopefully get going on a new project, yet to be determined..
