KertTsz, AndrT (1894-1985)
MELANCHOLIC TULIP, NEW YORK (1939), a silver print of this famed KertTsz image, see AndrT KertTsz Sixty Years of Photography, p. 78. Later printing, signed verso in pencil, sold with the KertTsz book and the original Phillips catalogue from 1981. Matted and framed.
In 1936 KertTsz worked in New York on a one year contract with Keystone photo agency. After three years he was still living in New York when he created 'Melancholic Tulip'. This shot was probably influenced by his 'Distortion' series which were nude figures photographed in funhouse mirrors in 1933.
See AndrT KertTsz Sixty Years of Photography page 78.
