Kerr patent, .44 caliber percussion revolver in Confederate range serial number 4700 showing J.S. and anchor just below of the trigger guard stamped in the grip. The metal surfaces show a dark to gray brown patina finish with some scattered light to moderate pitting and erosion with the heavier pitting confined to the firing areas and the rear of the frame. The hammer has gone to a very dark color and the action is not working properly. The cylinder pin has been backed out and may needrepairs. The breech end of the barrel between the cylinder and the barrel has been sleeved with a forged in peace creating a smaller distance between the front of the cylinder and the forcing cone. The work is neatly done during the period of use and is the kind of forging work you see on Confederate pistols. The grips are fair to good with some dings and mars at the top edge of the left grip near where it meets the frame but otherwise good. There is a note stuffed in thebarrel which we could not get out without damaging it. The collection of William A. Gary consigned by his estate estimates. Est.: $2000-4000
