Kern, Jerome (1885-1945) Prolific American composer of music for the theatre and screen. Autograph musical quotation signed, from one of Kern's most famous songs. Two measures from "Ol' Man River" boldly signed in black ink on a 5 x 3 in. index card and identified by Kern along the top of the quotation. The card is lightly toned but otherwise fine. Accompanied by the original transmittal envelope. Autograph quotations from "Ol' Man River" are very rare.

The song was composed for the 1927 musical, Show Boat, based on Edna Ferber's eponymous 1926 novel. Kern composed the music and Oscar Hammerstein II wrote the lyrics. Paul Robeson played Joe, the black dock worker who sang "Ol' Man River", in the 1936 verson. Who could forget that voice singing that song?
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
