Kentucky Rifle.
Description Circa 1815 to 1825. OL: 57 - 3/4". BL: 42 - 1/4". TB: Octagonal. LM: Flintlock. Obvious re-conversion. PB: 4-piece. S: Curly Maple. Incise carving. Ten silver inlays. This Kentucky rifle is signed "A.K." which would be York County's Andrew Kleindinst. The maple stock has a very nice incised carved pattern behind the cheekpiece which is very similar to J. Welshans, as is the wrist basket-weave carving. The upper 26 inches of the forestock are restored but the octagonal barrel appears to have its original length. The lock is an obvious re-conversion. There are a number of original silver inlays including fish and an eagle engraved cheekpiece inlay along with a desirable "bird preening its feathers" patchbox finial. Condition (Good).
