Kentucky Rifle.
Description Circa 1800 to 1820. OL: 57 - 1/4". BL: 41 - 3/4". TB: Octagon to round. LM: Flintlock. PB: None. Incise carving. This Kentucky long fowler has the architecture and carving which may indicate the work of John Benewitz or one of his two apprentices, Leonard Rordy and Andrew Fighthorn. The plain maple stock with a warm old finish is very graceful as is the incised carving at the front of the comb and the relief carving behind the barrel tang. The flintlock and sideplate are modern replacements but quite appropriate. Condition (Good).
