The last man to speak to Lee Harvey Oswald. Leavelle, a policeman, attempted to pull Oswald behind him as Jack Ruby pulled his gun. ALS, one page, lightly-lined, 8.5 x 11, September 25, 1984. Letter regarding the aftermath of Lee Harvey Oswald’s shooting. In full: “I will try to answer your letter and questions. I have no doubt that Oswald shot Kennedy, and I am also sure he acted alone.

As to why Ruby shot Oswald, is a good question. He gave several reasons none of them made good sense. The one he gave the press was he did not want Mrs. Kennedy to come back to testify in court. He told me he wanted to be a ‘hero.’ This was probably the truth. I did talk with both of them. I have no opinion other than the one I have already expressed in public.” In fine condition, with some scattered light wrinkles and creases. A first hand account from the very officer handcuffed to Oswald as he was shot by Jack Ruby on national television.
