Businessman (1913–1974) who was the only person prosecuted in connection with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy; he was ultimately found not guilty. TLS signed “Clay,” one page, 8.5 x 11, August 1972. Letter to a friend. In part: “Let us hope this is the NEXT to final chapter…the final one being an award of $5,000,000 to me. After which I shall charter the Stella Polaris and you, Terry and 500 of my most intimate friends will make the definitive trip around the world. I told you I am running away to sea with Edith Stern for a music cruise in the Mediterranean on the Renaissance come the end of August.” A photocopied news article fills most of the page, noting that the US Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a ruling that Jim Garrison’s charges of perjury had been brought in bad faith, and speculates that this marked the conclusion of Shaw’s legal battles. Intersecting folds and moderate overall toning, otherwise fine condition.
