Ken Maynard Autograph on his Cowboy Stationery.
Ken Maynard Autograph on his Cowboy Stationery. The rise and fall of cowboy star Ken Maynard (1895-1973) is the stuff of Hollywood legend - a stalwart Saturday matinee western hero who rode his horse "Tarzan" and whose real-life excesses soon blackballed him out of the movies and and into a circus act. Whatever one thinks about Maynard, he surely had impressive stationery! "Ken Maynard Fist National Western Star" reads the red letterhead; there are two photos of Maynard and a sketch of Indian teepees on the front; also, six pictures of Ken and "Tarzan" on the verso, along with a drawing of an Indian headdress, etc. The letter, return-addressed "Hollywood Calif" and dated November 6, 1933, reads: "Dear Mr. Souto: Please convey my best wishes to 'Cinearte' and its readers for a very Merry Christmas. SIncerely, Ken Maynard." The star had left First National Studios by this time and was on contract to Universal, but there's little wonder he saved and still used this colorful stationery to impress the fans. Some staining, especially along the bottom crease, and someone has written the number "7" and circled it at the bottom (this could be matted out). Desirable form for a classic Western Star! Very Fine condition.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
