<B>Keaka (Cameroon), Cross River Region</B></I><BR>Semi-helmet Mask<BR>Wood, skin<BR>Height: 17 ½ inches Width: 10 ½ inches Depth: 9 inches<BR><BR>A vertically oriented face that extends backward to cover the wearer's head, this mask was first carved in wood, then covered with a tightly stretched layer of animal skin. It has a squared open mouth and pierced oval eyes, tab ears and a long chin. The top of the mask, above a ridge, is domical.<BR><BR>There is an exterior split in the skin covering running from the proper right ear's lobe to the edge, and interior lifting of the skin on both sides, more on the proper left.<BR><BR>Provenance: H.
