African-American dancer and choreographer (1909–2006) best known as founder and director of the dance company which bore her name and for her appearances in such films as Star Spangled Rhythm and Stormy Weather. Vintage glossy 8 x 10 photo, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To Al Williams, Sincerely, Katherine Dunham.” In fine condition, with a few creases, dings, and surface marks. Williams was the owner of the Papagayo Restaurant in San Francisco during the 1950s and 1960s.
