Educator and poet (1859–1929) best known for the lyrics to the iconic patriotic song ‘America the Beautiful.’ Desirable printed lyrics to ‘America the Beautiful,’ one page, 5 x 6, neatly signed at the conclusion in crisp black ink, “Katharine Lee Bates.” The classic anthem, in part: “O beautiful for spacious skies, / For amber waves of grain, / For purple mountain majesties / Above the fruited plain! / America! America! / God shed his grace on thee / And crown thy good with brotherhood / From sea to shining sea!.” Gorgeously archivally cloth-matted and framed to an overall size of 11 x 12. In fine condition, with a central horizontal fold. Bates wrote the original version of the poem in 1893 after being inspired by the view from atop Pike’s Peak; it first appeared in print in The Congregationalist on the Fourth of July in 1895, and the final version was completed in 1913. An elegantly presented example of this iconic poem.
