Katharine Hepburn handwritten letter to costume designer Noel Taylor
One page letter written on yellow legal stationery, "Noel - You are really a sweet creature to be so enthusiastic about me - And as I'm so enthusiastic about you, we make a good pair. What about the title - Who Slept Here - [?] I thought - Golly - I [?] I'm plugging along with the birth control March 14 speech - terrifying - going to Boca Grand - Feb 27 - March 12 to N.Y. Speech - Mar 15 - Apr First - Boca - to veto both - Katharine". In fine condition. Noel Taylor designed for over 100 plays on Broadway, including "Auntie Mame" with Rosalind Russell and "Teahouse of the August Moon" as well as "The Night of the Iguana", which brought Bette Davis back to the stage. In 1985, he became associated with Katharine Hepburn for her first TV film, "Mrs. Delafield Wants to Marry", and worked with her until she retired in 1998. Of Mr. Taylor, Katharine Hepburn remarked: "I've never had such an easy time with clothes. Noël Taylor just came to New York the minute I'd said yes. He saw a few of my preferences -- noted my defects -- studied my character -- tried me out on materials -- colors, etc. -- took various measures -- had a few rough fitting and discussions. It was like an extraordinary experience. Like a dream. He made getting together a huge wardrobe of clothes seem like a cinch. Usually with clothes it's an agony I try not to be emotional, but of course I am emotional… Noel Taylor thought that I was great -- at least that what he says. Well, I thought *he* was great -- that's what I know".
