Kashmir, Maharaja Ranbir Singh (VS 1914-1942, 1857-1885 AD), Gold Medal, 60.27g, Obverse: Maharajas bust to left, nimbate, wearing an ornate cloak, a bejewelled sarpeach and a necklace of pear shaped pearls, Reverse: Devanagari legend Samvat 1934 Suja Sudi Sri Maharaja Ranvir Singh Bahadarji, Net Kamava Gasiya within floral wreath very similar in style to the contemporary British India Victoria rupee. Mint State, Extremely Rare, Probably Unique, of the highest historical importance. Ranbir Singh CIE, was the son of Gulab Singh, Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir and the head of the Jamwal Rajput clan. He was noted as a great scholar of classical Persian, and was also learned in Swedish and English. The trans-Himalayan territories of Gilgit, Astore, Hunza-Nagar were conquered and made part of Jammu and Kashmir in his time.
