Kasa An Village,AK - 1890 - Alaska Eskimo Fishing Canoes Stereoview :
Kasa An Village, Alaska is the caption for this stereocard showing a man and woman and their 2 dogs setting off in a canoe. Behind them is the shore with other canoes and a few men milling about. Several houses can be seen on the shore, most with totem poles in front. Published by J.F. Jarvis, Washington, D.C. sold only by Underwood & Underwood of New York, London, Toronto-Canada, Ottawa- Kansas. On the reverse is the name of the village in various languages. Handwritten in ink on the reverse is 1900-1971, but further internet research shows the date to be 1890. Kasa An is located in southeastern Alaska on the shores of the Skowe Arm, part of the Inland Passage. The Native Americans there are of the Haidas Tribe. Good contrast and focus. Slight tear in left photo at top left. Tan matte. 3.5 x 7."
