Karolyn Grimes is best known for her part in the classic movie, “It’s A Wonderful Life,” wherein she played Zuzu, the daughter of George Bailey who is sick and gives her father rose petals, which later became a symbol to George of his life.

Karolyn began acting at the age of four, and over her career, she has worked with Jimmy Stewart, Donna Reid, John Wayne, Danny Kaye, Cary Grant, Loretta Young, Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire, Gary Cooper, Randolph Scott, Buster Keaton and many more. In the movie, The Bishop’s Wife, when Cary Grant practiced his ice skating before filming, “…he would come get me and pull me around on a sled.”

Karolyn had a special experience with John Wayne. “He threw a birthday party for me when I turned 10. We were in Moab, Utah, at the time. The Korean Conflict had just broken out, and the government had commandeered most of the supplies and transportation. John somehow got $300 worth of fireworks delivered to us in Moab. He made a big cake, and we all went out to a bluff over the Colorado River for the cake and fireworks. I had the best time!”

But Karolyn’s life has not always been wonderful. Her movie career came to end with the untimely death of her mother from complications with Alzheimer’s Disease and the death of her father in a car accident the following year. After divorcing her first husband, he died in a hunting accident. Then, after being remarried for 25 years, she lost her second husband to lung cancer.

Yet, Karolyn continues to make appearances, promoting “Zuzu’s Mission,” which is to see the positive side of life despite the hardships. Karolyn is a sweetheart and a wonderful person to speak with—don’t miss your chance to meet the one and only Zuzu.
