German admiral (1891–1980) who commanded the German navy during World War II and tendered Germany’s surrender to the Allies on May 7, 1945. He was later sentenced to ten years imprisonment at Nuremberg. ALS in German, signed twice, one page, 8.25 x 10, personal letterhead, December 12, 1961. Short letter of thanks. In part (translated): “Many thanks for the letter and for the information of the U-505 submarine.” In fine condition, with intersecting mailing folds.
