Issued to and signed on verso twice by TRUMAN NEWBERRY (1864-1945) U.S. Businessman and political figure. Newberry served as a Senator from Michigan and as Secretary of the Navy. Perforation cancellation lightly affects the final letter of one of Newberry’s signatures. Conceived in 1900 by A.E. Stilwell, the Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railway was the predecessor to the Chihuahua al Pacifico railroad in Mexico. In the wake of a 1912 bankruptcy, the AT & SF acquired the line in 1928, largely in order to gain access to the west Texas old fields.
