<Our item number 99197><B>&#40;Hawaii - Kamehameha III&#41; 1897 Rare Republic of Hawaii Land Grant.</B> Partly-printed contemporary certified copy of Royal Patent No. 757 &#40;Palapala Sila Nui. Helu 757&#41;, in Hawaiian, 2pp &#40;2 conjoined sheets&#41;, 16x10&#34;, Honolulu, 6 Sept. 1897. Very good; some insect damage, affecting two lines of text and some blank areas. A grant to Miguel Castro, signed by J.A. King as Minister of the Interior, with large red wax seal of the Republic; King Kamehameha III had signed the original document in 1852. James A. King was a pioneer inter-island shipping magnate who was appointed by Sanford B. Dole as Minister of the Interior in the Provisional Government and then to the same position in the Republic of Hawaii. He was the father of delegate-to-Congress and later governor Samuel Wilder King and the grandfather of federal judge Samuel P. King. Anthony Robinson&#39;s name is on the docket. The Robinson family was owner of Niihau island and a large part of Kauai.
