<td width="100%">
The portraiture of the warrior occupies an important part in Japanese painting history. In this colored silk, the artist painted a mounted warrior ready to go to war. This warrior however, is shown attired in the ceremonial court dress of the times, instead of in armour. We can consider this style was the oldest style of dressing in which the warrior made his appearance in portraits.

Although this style lasted until later periods, the other style used in this warrior's portrait, that is to say,the priestly style, appeared for the first time around the middle of the Kamakura period. It was the result of the strong influence of Zen Buddhism on the warrior class.

The signature says, Made by TI KU Ga (or Yu-ku Ga)
