Gupta Dynasty, Samudragupta (335-370 CE), Gold Dinar, "Kacha" type, Obv: the king, nimbate, standing facing the left, holding a chakradhvaja (wheel-headed standard) in his left hand and sacrificing at altar at left, the Brahmi legend “Kacha" below the king's arm, a circular Brahmi legend “Kacho Gama(vajatya Divam) Karmabhiruttamair jayati” around the field, Rev: the goddess Lakshmi, nimbate, standing facing left, a cornucopia in her left hand and a lotus in right hand, its stalk twisted, a tamgha on the left field, Brahmi legend “Sarvarajochchhetta” in the right field, no carpet under feet, a dotted border around the field, 7.4g, 21.04mm, (Altekar, Bayana Hoard # Pl. VII-8/TGE, S. Kumar # Cl. I- Var. B), full legends completely visible, centrally struck on both the sides, choice quality, about extremely fine, Very Rare in this grade.
Note: The Kacha type coin of Samudragupta, depicting the goddess holding a lotus, is a seldom-encountered variety not frequently presented in auctions. On the obverse, the Fire Altar, almost complete legends, and a Chakradhvaja held by the King are distinctly visible. The reverse also exhibits comprehensive details within a dotted border.
