Paxton bequeaths in specific detail property and instructions to his wife and five children referencing gifts of slaves, land in Virginia, shares in the Stanford Library and in a Distillery. In part, “...<i>Second I give to my wife Elizabeth the thirds of the Place where I now live on during life I give also three negroes Dick Cloe and Lice During her life...Fourth I give to my Daughter Phebe a negro girl Moriah also I give another negro or the price of one between twelve and fifteen years of age...Eighth I allow my mother’s thirds of the place in Virginia to be sold...the money arising from the sale to be laid out in the purchases of the two negro girls for my too daughters Phebe and Peggy</i>...” His share in the Stanford Library is not to be sold but stand for the use of the family, and to his son James, Paxton also leaves his share in a distillery and a negro boy named Tom.
