Philippines Tribal Chieftains personal Kris side-sword, with superbly made handle, blade & well-fitting two-tone metallic scabbard. Maranao peoples from Southern Mindanao island, 19th or early 20th C. and having light wear which is most evident in the silvering at the base region. Only flaw is that the outer metal scabbard details are a bit loose from age and shrinking of the wood frame beneath. Lovely display piece having a highly-desirable Kris blade that used meteoritic Iron in its making. Best quality overall of this fine artifact type. 21-1/4" long when closed and similar to the one pictured on page 174 of the UCLA Museum of Cultural History catalog titled "The People and Art of the Philippines"....and from the 1990s exhibition there.
