KENNEDY, JOHN F.
(1917 - 1963) Thirty-fifth President of the United States. Kennedy faced-down the Kruschev during the Cuban Missile Crisis, re-invigorated NASA, and signed the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. Assassinated. Fine content T.L. (unsigned) with holograph corrections on White House letterhead, 1p. 4to., July 12m 1963 to the Duchess of Devonshire. In part: ""àall of us felt that the arrangements that you have made for Kathleen were beautiful. The inscription 'The joy she gave - the joy she found', is extremely nice. I hope the next time we come we can make a longer visità"" Kennedy corrects some of the text to read: ""àJoy she gave - joy she found, is so appropriate and moving"". Kathleen Kennedy (1920-1948) was John's sister, and one of his favorite siblings. Her death in a plane crash fifteen years earlier left the future president devastated. Kathleen was married to William Hartington, heir to the dukedom of Devonshire an undoubtedly a direct relative of Kennedy's correspondent. Sold with an early signature ""John F. Kennedy"" penned on a collector's autograph card, 1950. Both letter and signature are double-matted with photos of Ted, Kathleen, Jack and Joe, Jr., set into a fine wood frame.
