KENNEDY, JACQUELINE
(1929 - 1994) First Lady and wife of John F. Kennedy, 35th President of the United States. A fine pairing of items, I.S.P. 8"" x 10"" b/w, showing Kennedy with Jackie in side view, boldly signed in the blank mount beneath the image: ""For Bill Marin with appreciation and affection Jacqueline Kennedy"". Framed with a very rare Kennedy relic, a small silver campaign pin in the shape of a PT109, measuring 1 3/4"" x 1/4"" and reading ""Kennedy 60"". Kennedy commanded a PT109 in the Solomon Islands during World War II, when, on the night of Aug. 10, 1943, it was cut in half by a Japanese destroyer. Two men died, but eleven survived thanks to Kennedy's indefatigable efforts. Despite a back injury sustained in this travail, he refused repatriation and later commanded PT59 in further engagements. Kennedy gave this campaign pin only to his closest friends and allies. Both items framed with a brass plaque in a burled wood frame. A slight vertical crease to the photo, else very good. A fine pairing, most worthy of display!
