Since that time his landscapes have a fantastic dreamlike quality. They are often populated by strange and fanciful creatures. His canvas surfaces are impeccable, highly finished, and complex.

In the 1990s, Kelly Fearing released a print, In Passage at the Edge, based on this painting. In 1996, Dr. Amy Freeman Lee, also an important Texas artist and National Trustee of the Humane Society of the United States, wrote Kelly Fearing in his set of elegant and poignant prints provides a chance for us to review the innate beauty of his subjects "in passage" and, in so doing, reminds us of the responsibility to share the planet Earth with them. The implication is clear that we must do this to escape the final form of being "passage" ourselves if we hope to survive.

Professor Emeritus, Kelly Fearing was recently honored by receiving the University of Texas College of Art's highest honor, the Doty Award.
