KALTENBRUNNER, ERNST
(1903 - 1946) Chief of the S.D. who replaced Heydrich, he was a rabid anti-Semite who greatly increased efforts to round-up Jews, and also urged the murder of parachutists. Executed at Nuremburg. Rare, late T.L.S. on Chief of the SS and SD letterhead, 1p. 4to., Berlin, June 6, 1944 (D-Day!), to MARTIN BORMANN (1900 - 1945?), Head of the Nazi Party Chancellery and private secretary to Adolf Hitler, who adds an initialed A.D.S. at top. In part: "…In his letter of 3 December 1943…[Himmler] suggested that, through an edict of the Fuehrer, a central registry [could] be created for printed material entering Germany from abroad, particularly from the enemy countries…the English now have the same plan…[to include] domestic periodicals as well. I consider it essential that the lead which we currently enjoy…be preserved by a quick decision…". Bormann dockets the letter at top: "P[arty] [M]ember Klopfer I will report to the Reichsfuhrer SS [Himmler] that the Fuehrer has no objections. B[ormann]. Some file holes and wear at blank margins, overall very good.
