July 7, 1725 Lower Manhattan Deed
July 7, 1725 Lower Manhattan Deed, 17" x 27", vellum indenture boldly signed by both John and Mary Deane, and it has its original red wax seals at the bottom. The deed identifies Deane as a mariner and John Cannon as a boatman. The property ran from what was then Sackett Street along the edge of Stephen Delancy's property, down to the low-water mark of the South (now East) River. Sackett Street was named for Sackett's Cherry Orchards. The name of the street had become Cherry Street prior to 1800, and this was the site of the original Executive Mansion when George Washington lived there in 1789. Cherry Street disappeared under the Manhattan end of the Brooklyn Bridge, and by that time Cherry Street was several blocks inland due to landfill that added Water Street, Front Street and South Street between Cherry and the River. Fine condition. Very interesting and researchable!

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
