Julius Caesar, d. 44 B.C.<p> AR denarius minted in Africa, 47-46 B.C. Head right of Venus wearing diadem/Aeneas walking left, carrying palladium in right hand and Anchises on left shoulder. Cr. 458/1, Syd. 1013. AU58 ICG, an outstanding example. On the reverse, the Trojan prince Aeneas is shown holding a statue of Athena (palladium), which was stolen from Troy. On his shoulder he is carrying his father from the ruins of Troy on their way to Italy. The obverse portrays Venus, mother of Aeneas.
