Author, suffragette, dramatist, poet, and biographer (1819–1910), best remembered as the lyricist of ‘Battle Hymn of the Republic.’ ALS, two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.75 x 6, September 27, 1899. Howe writes from South Portsmouth, Rhode Island to Mrs. Harvey. In part: “I accept the terms proposed in your letter…to wit, thirty dollars and traveling expenses. I am to lecture in West Chester, Pa. in January 26th, and could visit you either just before or just after fulfilling this engagement…. I am not sure of being able to reach you on Jan 27th in time for a lecture, and perhaps you would not wish me to give mine on Saturday evening. Please let me hear from you regarding this….” Mild handling wear and soiling with a tiny spot or two, otherwise fine condition.
