<B> Julia Ward Howe Typed Manuscript, Signed ,</B></I> being a working draft of her poem "The Capitol", bearing numerous autograph notations and containing, too, an Autograph Note Signed ("J.W. Howe") to her editor written on the verso. 3 pages, 8.5" x 11", on her personal letterhead, Boston, Massachusetts, no date. Her Note reads reads, <I> "I have done what I could, would wish to see proof "Stet" means must stay as it is. J.W. Howe." </B></I> The notations made by Howe are in answer to suggestions written on the poem by Robert U. Johnson, editor of "The Century Magazine", who wrote on the last page of the manuscript, <I> "A beautiful poem," </B></I> Julia Ward Howe is famous for her song, "Battle Hymn of the Republic". <r In very fine condition; usual folds are present; slight soiling from age.
