Julia Ward Howe Autograph Letter Signed, three pages, 4.25" x 6.75", Scotch Plains, New Jersey, December 29, ca. 1880, to Elizabeth M. Howe, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Light aging, very good condition. This letter and its original mailing envelope are "edged in black" as if this was a death notice. Hardly. Howe is merely sending regrets that she cannot attend a function. Julia Ward Howe's antebellum abolitionist fervor led her to pen the lyrics to Battle Hymn of the Republic.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
