Julia Ward Howe Autograph Letter Signed
Julia Ward Howe Autograph Letter Signed "Julia W. Howe". Four pages, 3.75" x 6", foldover lettersheet, Fairfield, New Jersey, April 25, 1895, to Mrs. Cheney. It reads, in part: "...It was a comfort to know you had tried to see me. Of your kind sympathy in my loss I needed no assurance. I am here with my daughter Flossy [Florence Howe Hall] for a few days..." This refers to the recent death of Howe's sister Annie. She goes on to mention letters from Mrs Wolcott and Tarker about the Congress in Salt Lake City and her possible attendance. This is almost certainly a reference to Henrietta L. T. Wolcott and the Association for the Advancement of Women with which Howe had a long relationship. An excellent content letter in very fine condition. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection.
