<B>Julia Ward Howe Autograph Letter Signed.</B></I> Two pages, 3.5" x 5.25", [Boston], March 2, 1896, to Mrs. Hoyt. Howe accepts an invitation to lecture upon the terms of "<I>...twenty dollars and entertainment one night...</B></I>" on March 26th, the subject to be decided. Howe was a prominent abolitionist, activist, and poet whose stirring "Battle Hymn of the Republic" became a rallying song for the Union during the Civil War. She was also the first to proclaim Mother's Day (in 1870). Very good condition with a bit of staining, not affecting the signature. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
