French composer (1842–1912) best known for such operas as ‘Manon,’ ‘Werther,’ and ‘Thais.’ Handwritten pass, in French, signed “Massenet,” on an off-white 7 x 4.5 gridded sheet, November 1897. Massenet writes a pass for two seats in balcony box 15 for the premiere performance of Sapho. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, moderate to heavy overall creases, and some edge tears and paper loss. Sapho, Massenet’s lyric opera in two acts, was premiered on November 27, 1897, at the Opera Comique.
